PTSD Ithaca is an independent, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder support, social, educational and self-help group to assist those individuals in and around Ithaca, New York who have been diagnosed with (or think they may have) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Anyone who has experienced a traumatic or life-threatening event which may have included intense fear, helplessness or lack of control can develop PTSD. This may include but is not limited to the following:
- Accidents
- Combat
- Crime Victim
- Disasters (natural or man-made)
- Physical Abuse or Attack
- Sexual Abuse
Symptoms of PTSD may include:
- Anger
- Avoiding people, places and things that provide recollections of the event
- Concentration difficulties
- Exaggerated startle response
- Hypervigilance
- Insomnia
- Irritability
- Recurrent and disturbing recollections of the event
- Social and relationship issues
- Withdrawal
